My international experience began at a young age when I moved to the United States at the age of ten and was enrolled in an elementary school with students from many different countries. From that moment, I developed a curiosity and appreciation for learning about other cultures and languages.
In high school, I continued exploring this interest by taking language and international studies courses as electives. In the fall of 2012, I had the opportunity to travel to Portugal and Spain with a group of students, which was my first time traveling abroad.
After beginning my college career at Valencia College in Orlando, I realized that I wanted to pursue a major in International Relations. At Valencia, I was welcomed into the Honors Program, where I took Interdisciplinary Honors (IDH) courses. I also had the opportunity to participate in a short-term study abroad program in London, England with the Honors College, where I was able to experience in person many of the topics we studied in class. These experiences helped strengthen my interest in international affairs and inspired me to continue my studies at Florida International University (FIU).
Transferring to FIU was one of the best decisions I made. Through the Honors College and the Global Learning Medallion program, I became more aware of global issues and gained valuable perspectives through organizations, travel, and leadership opportunities. I also had the chance to stay engaged with my community by volunteering both locally and abroad.
Each course and activity within the Medallion program contributed to my growth as a global citizen. I hope to continue meeting people from different backgrounds and participating in projects and initiatives both in the United States and internationally.
